Hudson's path in Westport |
April 6, 2010
Here is a review of Hudson's travels from his arrival to his nest on March 26th up to the morning of April 6th. The largest concentration of markers are around his nest at the base of the West Branch of the Westport River. So far he has made a few visits to some of the other bodies of water in the area, but he has mainly stayed close to home.

Hudson Flies Past the Hudson |
March 25, 2010
We've been told to look for Hudson to arrive this afternoon at around 4pm. As of this morning he was in New Jersey nearing the Hudson River in New York. He has about 180 miles to go to until he reaches his nest in the Westport River, where Mrs. Hudson is already waiting. Ozzie still hasn't left Cuba, and the thought is that there must be something wrong with either Ozzie's transmitter, or Ozzie himself. We'll keep an eye on it.

Hudson Reaches the Potomac |
March 22, 2010
Hudson is still cruising along as he is passing out of Virginia and has reached the Potomac. He has been pretty much making a b-line for Westport as soon as he hit Georgia. Ozzie hasn't received the memo yet that it is time to get a move on, so we'll see what he ends up doing.

Hudson Passes into South Carolina |
March 19, 2010
It was 70 degrees and sunny as Hudson was soaring into South Carolina. The map below shows Hudsons travel up until 11am this morning when he was last marked 50 miles in from the coast. It also shows the destination of Hudson and Ozzie, the Westport River, marked with a red thumbtack. Ozzie is not shown on the map because, well, he still hasn't moved an inch out of Cuba. He's still moving back and forth from his nest, so he's up to something.

Hudson Continues up the Florida Coast |
March 16, 2010
Hudson continues to make his way up the Florida coast. He has had a long journey, almost 2,000 miles in nine days, but he still has at least 1,000 long miles to go. Ozzie is still hanging strong in Cuba, about a 1,500 mile straight shot from Westport, but should be leaving any day now.

March 13, 2010
Hudson is really ready to get back to Westport! He flew for about 30 hours straight over the Carribean Sea from Venezuela to Cuba. The break in the data points on the map during that time is due to the fact that part of this trek over the sea was at night when the transmitter is not able to get power from the solar panels. He past right between Jamaica and Haiti, and missed his pal Ozzie by about 120 miles. Hudson touched, or soared over, ground in the U.S. as he hit the southern tip Florida late Saturday morning. Ozzie is still staying put in Cuba and will probably take his time getting back based on his previous pace, but he better get going soon! Stay tuned!

Hudson Soars over the Caribbean |
March 10, 2010
At about 8:00 pm on March 9, Hudson left Venezuela and started his trek over the Caribbean Sea. He is flying over the Sea now, and seems to be heading towards Jamaica at the moment. The points on the map are Hudsons travel up to 2:00 am on March 10. Ozzie still has not moved an inch away from his home in Cuba, but he is still closer than Hudson. We may have a tortoise-and-the-hare type scenario with these two, but we'll have to see.

March 7, 2010
Hudson is out of the gate first as he started his journey north on Sunday. He left his winter home on the Meta River on the border between Colombia and Venezuela at about 3 pm and flew north by northwest to the point you see on the map by 6 pm. We will keep you updated as Hudson continues his voyage. Ozzie has not left Cuba yet, but we will let you know when he makes his move!

Hudson And Ozzie Prepare for Takeoff |
March 1st, 2010
Hudson and Ozzie are preparing for their trip back to Westport. They should be leaving any day now, but perhaps they heard about the snow and are waiting a little while longer. Ozzie is starting from Cuba. Hudson has a much larger distance to travel as he is all the way down in South America almost directly on the border between Venezuala and Colombia. Stay tuned for their next move and vote on which you think will make it back first.

Ozzie and Hudson Have Settled Down |
October 28th, 2009
Ozzie is pretty settled in Cuba and has been spending most of his time near Cienfuegos. It looks like his winter home is on the Bahia de Cienfuegos (Bay of Cienfuegos).

October 28th, 2009
Hudson has been hovering between Colombia and Venezuela. It appears as though he is practicing strict adherence to political borders, however it is important to note that this part of the border between the two countries is also a river. Keep checking in to see if he moves to another location.

Hudson and Ozzie are Still Looking |
October 14th, 2009
Ozzie seems like he's staying in Cuba. We'll keep an eye on him there and see what he is up to while he's away from Westport.

October 13th, 2009
Hudson has slowed his trek across Venezuela and he too may be settling in for the winter. We'll have to keep an eye on him and see where he ends up.

Hudson Makes His Way Through Venezuala, Ozzie Hangs Out In Cuba |
October 10 to October 11, 2009
Ozzie hasn't made much progress since we last checked in with him. He is still on the southern coast of Cuba. This is not unexpected, however. Ozzie has preferred to take on the Tortoise role in this migration race. He has moved only during the day, and has rested before flying over large bodies of water.

October 8 to October 11, 2009
Hudson, our Hare, however has continued his move south. He has opted to take shortcuts flying over large bodies of water and making up time by flying at night quite a bit. He has been been busy crossing diagonally across Venezuala the past couple of days. He is flying southeast through Venezuala and is about 500 miles north of Brazil

Hudson and Ozzie Near Their Destinations |
October 5 to October 9, 2009
Ozzie has crossed over to the southern coast of Cuba, and looks like he may be gathering up the courage to cross over to South America. Last week he was catching up to Hudson, so does this now mean we have a tie?

October 1 to October 7, 2009
No way, Hudson saw Ozzie coming and made an overnight flight to cross the Carribbean Sea. He has flown past the eastern tip of Colombia and is now in Venezuela. Hudson is still ahead, but we do not yet know the location of the finish line. We will have to wait and see where they go next!

Ozzie and Hudson are both in Cuba |
October 2 to October 4, 2009
Hudson and Ozzie are in the same country again! Ozzie's path up until October 4th is shown below by the red markers. Ozzie has just crossed over from Florida to right near Havana, Cuba. He has been mainly travelling during the day.

October 2 to October 5, 2009
Hudson arrived in Cuba earlier that Ozzie, but he has not travelled very far since. The green markers below show Hudson's path up until October 5th, as he lands in Cuba and makes his way East.

Hudson and Ozzie Are Leaving the States |
September 30 to October 2, 2009
Here is the map of the migratory paths of Hudson(green) and Ozzie(purple) up until October 2nd. Hudson and Ozzie are certainly finding different paths on their way south. Ozzie has flown over land and along the coast to the tip of Florida. Hudson, on the other hand, took off over the Atlantic Ocean after travelling with Ozzie through the Carolinas. He made a little pit stop in the Bahamas and is now in Cuba. As of now, Hudson is in the lead, but the race isn't over yet! Stay tuned!

Ozzie Has Started his Journey South |

September 13th to September 20th, 2009
Ozzie is on the Move! Ozzie has started his migration south! He is in New Jersey as of the end of the time period shown here. Each marker on the map is the location from which Ozzie's transmitter sent an hourly signal during his journey. We will continue to give updates on Ozzie and all of the birds. |
